Former President Barack Obama on Saturday (September 8) appeared at his first campaign event for the midterm elections set for November, rallying up a large crowd in Anaheim, California, where he repeated his statement from the day before that it was time to inject “sanity” back into politics.
Obama urged the crowd of Democratic party volunteers to take off their house slippers and to put on their “marching shoes” to generate support among a wide spectrum of voters for candidates that will help flip the U.S. House of Representatives back to Democratic party control.
Obama’s appearance came one day after he assailed President Donald Trump and Republicans on Friday, urging Democrats to deliver a check on the administration’s “abuses of power” and restore a sense of sanity to politics by voting in November’s elections.
In an unusually blistering attack on his successor, Obama said Americans were living in dangerous times and accused Republicans of threatening democracy, dividing the country, undermining global alliances and cozying up to Russia.
