ITN clinches many Awards at the Sumathi Awards Festival

The Sumathi Awards Festival, the mega arts festival of the small screen was held yesterday. The Independent Television Network Channel was honoured with many awards. ITN was also the sponsor of the Sumathi Tele Awards Festival.
The 23rd Sumathi Tele Awards Festival was held at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre with the participation of a large number of artistes. ITN took the forefront in this Awards Festival. The News Division of the ITN Media Network succeeded in winning many Awards for its outstanding media performances.
The “Uma Oye Ettha Kathawa” produced by Gayan Ellegoda of the ITN News Division won the Award for the Best Television Current Affairs programme. The “Arty” feature of Oshadha Priyankara of the News Division won Awards for the Best Television Feature programme. The ITN News Division clinches the second place for the Best Television Current Affairs reportage. The Award went to Indika Weerakoon.
The Best TV documentary Award was clinched by Manjula Ethugala, an ITN Producer for his “Pathi” programme. The Upcoming teledrama actor’s award was secured by Ashen Manjula for his contribution to the “Diyamankada” teledrama telecast over ITN.
Udaya Kumara Tennekoon of ITN who directed “Sonduru Aagnawa” received the Special Jury Award. The “Millewa Walawwa” teledrama also won another special Jury Award and it was received by Cletus Mendis.
A Special Evaluation Award was presented to Sathischandra Edirisinghe on behalf of his outstanding services to the field of art.
The Most Popular Actors Award of the Sumathi Awards Festival was clinched by Raveen Kanishka while the Most Popular Actress Award was won by Shalini Tharaka.
The Best Teledrama Actor was Shyam Fernando. The Best Teledrama Actress was Nadhi Kammellaweera.
The U.W. Sumathipala Memorial Award presented once in a lifetime was awarded to veteran artiste Tissa Wijesurendra and veteran actress Geetha Kumarasinghe.
Several dancing performances added colour to the Awards Festival. Among those who graced the occasion were Ministers and Parliamentarians as well as artistes.
