Japan beat rivals China for first badminton title in 20 years

China failed to claim its sixth consecutive gold medal in the women’s badminton team event at the Asian Games after losing to top-seeded Japan 3-1 in the final yesterday. Japan beat China 3-1 in the final of the women’s team event  to secure the country’s first badminton gold medal at an Asian Games since 1998.The victory also means China were prevented from winning a sixth consecutive gold in the event. Singapore’s Olympic swimming champion Joseph Schooling stormed home in an Asian Games record time of 51.04 seconds in the men’s 100 metres butterfly final.It is the first swimming gold for a country other than China or Japan at the meet.Japanese swimmer Yasuhiro Koseki obliterated the Games record to win the men’s 100 metres breaststroke as he clocked 58.86 seconds in the final, beating the previous mark of 59.91.
