250,000 pieces of Tiffany glass live in a NYC warehouse

On an industrial block in Long Island City, Queens, a quarter of a million sheets, shards and pieces of multicolored and iridescent glass sit in a warehouse that make up the largest collection of Tiffany glass at the Neustadt Collection of Tiffany Glass. The Neustadt Collection was founded in 1969 by Tiffany collector Egon Neustadt and his wife Hildegard. Their passion for Tiffany lamps began in 1935. They purchased their first Tiffany lamp, a daffodil shade, in a second-hand shop in Greenwich Village as the newly married couple were trying to furnish their first home.American artist Louis Comfort Tiffany and his design team created Tiffany Studios, which made those iconic color-infused, leaded glass lamp shades and stained glass windows that Neustadt fell in love with. Tiffany Studios closed in the late 1930s and the beloved lamps and windows stopped being produced then. Tiffany died in 1933 and was the son of Charles Lewis Tiffany, the founder of the American jewelry and silver company.
