Navy Sampath will be remanded till the 29th of this month

The Fort Magistrate ordered to remand Navy Sampath alias former Lt. Commander of Navy, Chandana Prasad Hettiarachchi till 29th of this month in connection with abducting 11 people to solicit ransoms.

The court ordered warrants several times to arrest the suspect previously. The magistrate stressed that absconding the court is a serious offence. The Fort magistrate has issued 3 warrants in different times. The Criminal Investigation Department has revealed that Navy Sampath had committed crimes while serving as a Lt. Commander of the Navy during the Rajapakse regime.

Students of International schools are also among the victims of the abductions. The Criminal Investigation Department implemented a comprehensive investigation to nab the suspect. Accordingly, he was apprehended day before yesterday.
