Swimmer Ross Edgley broke the world record for the longest staged sea swim when he completed 74 days in the sea as he attempts to swim around Britain. The record, which needs to be verified by the Open Water Swimming authorities, betters the 73 days that Frenchman Benoit Lecomte set when swimming across the Atlantic in 1998. The British 32-year-old set off from Margate in Kent on June 1 and still has 900 miles to go to complete the 2,000 mile journey around the coast. Edgley, who swims for six hours at a time with six hour rests, said that swimming at night and jellyfish were the worst obstacles he has had to overcome.
