Insurance case involving misuse of four billion rupees kept aside

The Colombo Fort Magistrate has decided to keep aside the case filed against several persons including former Presidential Chief of Staff Gamini Senarath with regard to an allegation of misusing a sum of four billion rupees.

They are accused of misusing funds allocated with Cabinet approval for the Grand Hyatt Regency Project being constructed in Kollupitiya under a Company affiliated to the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation. The Magistrate’s Court decided to leave aside this case following the intimation to Courts by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division that a case in this respect has been filed in the High Court.

Accordin gly the Magistrate’s Court emphasized to the suspects to appear in the High Court as soon notices were received. A request made by the suspects for foreign travel was turned down.

The other suspects are Neil Hapuhinna and Piyadasa Kudabalage.
