Life’s a ball for London Zoo leos on World Lion Day

World Lion Day came early for London Zoo residents with Asiatic lions being treated with new toys. Lioness sisters Heidi, Indi and Rubi looked pleased to find the Asiatic lion enclosure filled with specially designed boomer balls enrichment balls for large, strong animals to play with.

According to London Zoo the balls were painted with vibrant colours inspired by the Indian state of Gujarat and scented with the pride’s favourite aromatic herbs and spices. Asiatic lions are from India’s Gujarat province and are classified as endangered, with only several hundred of the animals believed to remain in the wild. They used to inhabit areas from across Asia from Turkey to eastern India.
