978 metric tons of paddy purchased in two days

The Paddy Purchasing Board has purchased 978 metric tons of paddy from farmers during the last two days.

The paddy purchasing program of the government commenced at the Kohombana area in Uhana on the 4th of this month. The government has set aside 4,900 million rupees to buy out paddy from the farmers countrywide. One kilogram of Samba variety is purchased at 41 rupees and Naadu variety at 38 rupees.

The Ministry of Agriculture states that as the private sector gives ten rupees higher than the certified price of the government, the farmers continue to receive good income for their harvest. The Ministry announces that 1.4 million metric tons of paddy harvest is expected in the yala season.

The government aims to buy 120,000 metric tons of the total harvest. All the paddy storages are open to buy paddy from the farmers.
