Special High Court to begin hearing cases on the 24th

The Special High Court established with the aim of expediting the hearing of large scale financial fraud and corruption cases will commence the hearing of cases from the 24th of this month.
The Special High Court will be instrumental in establishing a good country expediting the law against the corrupt. The Special High Court will take up for consideration on the 24th of this month the incident related to the irregular investment of a sum of 500 million rupees of the Litro Lanka Gas Company.
Gamini Senarath, the former Chief of Staff of former Presidernt Mahinda Rajapaksa, former Managing Director of the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation Piyadasa Balage, former Samurdhi Commissioner Neil Bandara Hapuwinna and Lasantha Bandara have been named as respondents of this case. The hearing of the case will be related to a financial fraud with respect to the illegal investment of 500 million rupees given by the Litro Lanka Gas Company to the Kanwin Holding Company in the Helenco Hotel Private Company.
The Chief Justice has appointed judges Sampath Abeykoon, Sampath Wijeratne and Champa Janaki Rajaratne who are now serving in the Colombo High Court Complex to the special three judge bench.
This Special High Court has been established amending the Judiciary Act. It received the endorsement of the Supreme Court. The Government has proposed the establishment of three Special High Courts to expedite the hearing of cases against the corrupt.
