Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne to be felicitated

Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Rajitha Senaratne is to be felicitated for his services to the health sector. The felicitation ceremony organized for the purpose will be held at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre tomorrow.
Minister Rajitha Senaratne has already carried out the work with respect to the promotion of Sri Lanka’s health service. He was given the post of vice president of the World Health Organization at the annual sessions in Geneva in May.
After the appointment of Dr. Rajitha Senaratne as the Health Minister, he embarked on many health services. A primary concern was the reduction of prices effected to medicines. He also took measures to provide free stents for cardiac surgery, prohibit tobacco sales at places close to schools and to increase tax on cigarettes. All drugs are available free of charge for cancer patients. Minister Rajitha Senaratne also decided to introduce color symbols for sugar contents of soft drinks.
The felicitation ceremony is organized by the Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, the World Health Organization and the Health Trade Union Federation. President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe as well as WHO representative in Sri Lanka Rasia Fensay are due to participate in the function.
