Protest against Chamal Rajapaksa

An agitation took place with the arrival of Mr. Chamal Rajapaksa at a function instead of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa who was scheduled to attend the ceremony as the Chief Guest in Embilipitiya yesterday. The ceremony had to be cancelled due to the protest against Mr. Rajapaksa. Chief Monk of Embilipitiya Heenkaluhinna Wanawasala Naaga Viharaya announced a short while before the religious ceremony to unveil the Buddha Statue, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa would not arrive at the function due to an illness. With that people in the area and organizers staged a protest. Two of the youth climbed up a tree as a mark of protest. Although attempts were made to get them down and to calm the youth, following the arrival of Mr. Chamal Rajapaksa, they were unsuccessful. Mr. Chamal Rajapaksa informed them that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa left for Singapore recently to seek treatment for a back pain and the pain reoccurred after he attended another function yesterday. Since they could not control the situation, Mr. Chamal Rajapaksa connected the organizer over a telephone call with Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa. Thereafter the organizer informed that Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa told them that the activities should take place according to his wishes. Mr. Chamal Rajapaksa there after cancelled the function and left the place with his security.
