Britain’s ‘furnace Friday’ causes travel chaos for air and rail passengers

Britain’s recent heatwave caused a cascade of travel disruptions, despite temperatures dropping considerably after overnight storms. Drivers hoping to visit France via the EuroTunnel in Folkestone were stuck in stationary traffic jams on the approach to the terminal, with operators advising passengers that they should expect delays of up to two hours due to problems with air conditioning in carriages. Travellers at Stansted Airport, located northeast of London, were also kept waiting, with some passengers boarding flights that were eventually cancelled before takeoff, while others were left sitting in a crowded departure hall, unsure as to whether they would be able to get to their destinations.
