Party leaders discuss the Provincial Council election

The Party Leaders meeting was held at the Parliamentary Complex this morning. It was held under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe.
Discussions at this meeting centred on several matters including the conduct of the Provincial Councils election. Party leaders as well as representatives of the Elections Commission are reported to have attended the meeting. Another Party leaders meeting is slated to be held next week. Several Parliamentarians expressed their views to media at the meeting.
Parliamentarian Dinesh Gunawardena said that no results were yielded from today’s meeting. What they continuously request is a poll. He said that they would wait to see what would happen at the next meeting.
Minister Mano Ganeshan said that if the joint opposition is agreeable they should say that the election should be held according to the old system. If they are prepared for the new system it has to be prepared. He said that he recently met Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Parliamentary complex and were prepared for the election according to any system and if there is delay they do not mind going for the election according to the old system. But Dinesh Gunawardena is against the old system.
