Indian police arrest 10 after more than dozen girls raped at government-funded shelter home

At least sixteen girls were raped by staff members of a government-funded shelter home in India’s northern Muzaffarpur city. Police personnel were deployed and an excavator was pressed into service at the shelter home area to exhume the body of a girl after one of the victims informed police in her statement that a girl was beaten to death and buried in the premises after disagreement with staff members.

The police are yet to find the body. Reportedly, 21 girls were rescued from the shelter home run by the state’s Social Welfare Department. The shelter home was sealed a month ago after reports of sexual exploitation came to light.
