Work on Polonnaruwa Kidney Hospital begins tomorrow

Construction work on the China Sri Lanka Friendship National Kidney Hospital will begin in Polonnaruwa tomorrow. It is a total gift from the Chinese Government. The launch of work on the hospital will commence under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.

The China Sri Lanka Friendship National Kidney Hospital will cost 12,000 million rupees. The Chinese Government is sponsoring the entire project following a request made by the President. The Hospital is being launched realizing a long standing desire of the President on behalf of the people suffering from the kidney disease. It will be the largest Kidney Hospital of the South Asian region.

The Hospital is being built not only for kidney patients within the North Central Province but for all patients spread throughout the island. It will be equipped with the world’s most modern laboratory and high-tech facilities.

The hospital will have 200 beds and 100 blood transfusion machines. It is also planned to establish an Out Patients Treatment Department. There will also be six modern surgical theatres needed for the kidney transplant and an out patients and specialized kidney patients clinic complex. There will also be a modern auditorium with a 200 seating capacity and a car park which can accommodate 300 vehicles. There will also be hostel facilities needed for the hospital staff.

Work on the project is expected to be completed within 24 months and accordingly the work will be completed by July 2020.
