Everyone will receive benefits from the Grama Shakthi People’s Movement

President Maithripala Sirisena has said that the Grama Shakthi Agricultural programme is a project that should be operative sans any political differences and passing on its benefits to each and every one. The President underscored the need for everyone to get together in this respect with a comprehensive responsibility.

The Central Province Steering Committee of the “Grama Shakthi People’s Movement” met under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena. The “Grama Shakthi People’s Movement” project is being implemented as a project to help people to move away from their subservience mood based on a concept of the President. It also received the contribution of the Private Sector. Several Memorandums of Understanding that would pass on benefits of the Grama Shakthi People’s Movement to the Central Province were also signed.

The President handed over grants on behalf of the first instalment that is due to be handed over for Grama Shakthi Peoples Societies, to District Secretaries concerned. 108 million rupees was handed over for the three Districts of the Central Province.

The President said that the selection of these villages were devoid of political differences. It will move forward year by year. To achieve progress of the project it should be included and discussed in the agenda of the District Coordinating Committee and the Regional Coordinating Committee. He said that it should be discussed with the Parliamentarians, field officers and the people and prepare the programmes. This should be carried out collectively and with dedication with the intention of alleviating poverty from the country.

The President visited the Grama Shakthi village in Kotaligoda North within the Yatinuwara Divisional Secretariat Division and met the villagers. The President as well as Parliamentarians responded to queries posed by the people.
