Machine transforms household trash into fuel

The average household produces more than two kilograms of rubbish a day. Despite efforts to boost recycling, much of this trash is destined for landfill. But for British inventor Nik Spencer this waste is a valuable resource and just the fuel he needs for his Home Energy Resources Unit, or HERU. As well as organic material like food, hard-to-recycle materials coffee cups, food-contaminated items, and even babies’ nappies can all go straight into the HERU. Inside the chamber of the device all this resource is dried out, heated and broken down into fuel for domestic heating applications. The only items that won’t break down are metals and glass, but these are more readily recycled on a large scale.
