Mahanayakes apprised of the Audit Bill

The Mahanayakas of the Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters have emphasized that it is timely that the Audit Bill be passed in order to close down financial disturbances in the country. The Chief Prelates laid this emphasis when the Auditor General Gamini Wijesinghe paid courtesy calls on the Mahanayakes of the Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters.
Auditor General Gamini Wijesinghe first visited the Malwatte Maha Vihare and called on the Mahanayake the Most Ven. Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thera and received his blessings. Thereafter they engaged in a cordial discussion. Gamini Wijesinghe said that the proposed Audit Bill is slated to be taken up for debate in Parliament on the 05th of this month. He said that its passage in Parliament will on a large scale bring under control corruption, fraud and malpractices taking place in the country.

The Auditor General thereafter called on the Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter the Most Ven. Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thera. He took the initiative of apprising the Mahanayake of the Audit Bill.

Responding to queries raised by journalists, the Auditor General said that they have the possibility of investigating into financial transactions carried out without firms that are not being subject to any audit process.
