Farmer community will receive fertilizer for Yala sans a shortage

Measures have been taken to supply the fertilizer required by the farmer community sans any shortage to undertake paddy cultivation in the Yala season.
Earlier the Agriculture Ministry planned to cultivate nearly 200,000 hectares of paddy land. But following the torrential rain experienced in the past few days, it has now decided to increase this extent to 538,399 hectares.
Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has instructed the National Fertilizer Secretariat to take action to increase the quantity of the fertilizer subsidy given to the farmers without any shortage.
Accordingly the quantity of fertilizer released for farmers under the Government subsidy for the Yala season will be 162,179.
The allocation made by the Government for the provision of the fertilizer subsidy for the Yala season is over 9551 million rupees.
Farmers are able to purchase a bag of fertilizer for paddy cultivation at 500 rupees from Agrarian Service Centres. Urea fertilizer for other cultivations can be purchased from Agency Centres at 1500 rupees.
