Nigeria Shakes Up Group D With Win Over Iceland

Ahmed Musa’s superb second-half double helped Nigeria to their first win of the 2018 World Cup as they beat Iceland 2-0 in Volgograd, Russia to go second in Group D.Iceland were the better team in the first half, but the West Africans were much improved after the break, with Leicester City’s Musa controlling and blasting home brilliantly after good work from Chelsea’s Victor Moses in the 49th minute. Nigeria continued to create chances and Musa doubled their lead 15 minutes from time with a well-taken solo goal after a long ball from the back. Iceland were awarded a late penalty via VAR after referee ? overturned his original decision to award Nigeria a goalkick, but Everton’s Gylfi Sigurdsson fired over from the spot. It was a deserved win for Nigeria who move onto three points in Group D – three behind group leaders Croatia with Iceland and Argentina on one point apiece.
