13 islands in Kalpitiya to be developed

President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed the officials to submit the plan which was prepared to develop 13 islands in the Kalpitiya, to the cabinet. The President gave the instructions at a meeting held at the Madurankuliya, Mercy Education Center.

The President advised Chief Minister of the Wayamba Province, Dharmasiri Dassanayake and Minister of Internal Affairs and Wayamba Development, S B Navinna to identify the development issues of the people living in Kalpitiya and implement the envisaged plan in line with the priorities. The officials gathered at the meeting discussed about the future development activities prepared for the Kalpitiya area and reviewed the ongoing projects.

The President was educated about the plight of some farmers whose land has been acquired to the Wild Life Department. The President instructed the officials to allow space to the said farmers to continue their activities without a problem. The President also asked the officials to implement a program to promote dairy productions in Puttalam.

President Sirisena instructed the officials to appoint a special committee to inquire about the livelihood problems in the area and submit a report in due course. The meeting was also attended by some Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna representatives as well. They stated that they will support the ‘Grama Shakthi’ program.  45 million rupees was allocated for the Kurunegala district and 24 million rupees for the Puttalam district under the ‘ Grama Shakthi’ initiative.

An MOU was signed between Grama Shakthi Peoples Movement and the Cargills Company to purchase some crops. President Sirisena engaged in an inspection tour at Thalawila and Mohottuwarama villages after the meeting. The President also heeded to the grievances of the villagers.
