Continuous snowfall in London severely tested the city authorities as they have limited capacity in clearing up snow quickly. As of Thursday, the rarely seen snowfall had lasted for four days in the UK’s capital city. Worse still, the cold air from Siberia dropped the temperature and caused snow to accumulate. Due to lack of money, tools for removing the snow and basic snow-melting agents, the government could do little but let accumulated snow on most of road sections melt naturally. In that case, the pavements gradually turned to be icy and slippery,
In the meantime, people in the UK continued to shiver in freezing temperatures as an extreme cold snap caused fears that gas supplies were tight. In Lincolnshire Royal Air Force personnel and army advisers used 4×4 vehicles to help transport key workers such as hospital staff and carers who were stranded by the snow.
