Main roads and many houses were flooded in Southern Thailand today, as the interior ministry reported that 25 people have been killed by the flooding and two people were missing. The region has been hit by un-seasonal rains for over a week, paralysing local businesses and leaving tourists stranded in what has been the region’s worst flood in several years. 12 provinces in southern Thailand were affected by torrential rains and the flooding that started on 1 January, affecting around 370,000 households, or over a million people. Thailand’s joint standing committee on commerce, industry and banking estimated that the floods would set the Thai economy back by around 10 to approx 281,000,000 to 420,000,000 US dollars.
