Hindu pilgrims injured in an accident in the Indian portion of Kashmir were being treated in a hospital in Jammu, after the bus they were traveling in plunged into a 45-meter-deep gorge. At least 16 pilgrims were killed and more than two dozen were injured in accident. The bus was traveling to a cave shrine in the Himalayas. The bus swerved off a mountain road after a tire burst. A police statement said 27 injured, 19 in critical condition, were taken to hospitals in Banihal, a town 120 kilometres south of Srinagar, the main city in Indian-held Kashmir.
