A UK pensioner has created a one of a kind vehicle replacing the petrol engine in his Land Rover by one powered by steam. The car may be slower than normal but it’s become a fixture on the country lanes around Oldham. It won’t break any land speed records, but this custom Land Rover Defender is certainly turning heads. Retired engineer and mechanic Frank Rothwell has always been a fan of steam engines and decided to convert his old Land Rover to become steam-powered. He removed the old petrol engine and replaced it with something from another era. It’s now a collection of pulleys, levers and steam powering this old workhorse. Rothwell has affectionately called the car ‘Mildred’.
