The sixth of nine Giant Slalom races on the 2018 Alpine World Cup calendar took place at the Italian resort of Kronplatz and with the upcoming Olympic Games dominating the agenda, it seemed to affect a number of athletes’ performances. Mikaela Shiffrin of the United States had little excuse through. The World Cup Overall and discipline leader slid out of the race on the first run on one of the steeper sections of the course. Shiffrin also failed to finish a Super-G in Cortina d’Ampezzo. With a start number of 12, Norway’s Ragnhild Mowinckel was the surprise leader after the first run. She held a narrow 0.06 of a second lead over Italy’s Marta Bassino, with Viktoria Rebensburg of Germany third.
