Italy’s Elia Viviani won the sprint finish to take the second stage of the Abu Dhabi Tour. The win moved him into the overall race lead, on the same time as second-placed Alexander Kristoff. Early in the 148-kilometre stage from Yas Island to Yas Beach, a five-man breakaway formed but were eventually reeled in by the peloton. Crosswinds then split the field but with 16 kilometres to go, they regrouped. In the final sprint, Viviani powered past Dutchman Danny Van Poppel and Pascal Ackerman of Germany to secure the stage win.
