The election to elect 160 members for the Youth Parliament took place today. Chairman and Director General of National Youth Services Council Eranda Weliange said that Youth Parliament provides a good opportunity for the future generation. The election took place at 66 Centres island wide from 7.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. National Youth Services Council said that 332,701 youth were eligible to vote at the election. 945 candidates have contested for 160 electoral divisions. The Youth Parliament is consisted of 225 members. 160 of them will be selected from the election which took place today. 65 will be selected from the students of Law Faculties, Differently abled youth, Prefects and from the Volunteer Organizations which are not youth clubs. The National Youth Council said that 165 external applicants have already applied for those slots.
