Construction work on the Central Expressway another priority development project in the country is now successfully progressing. It is a massive project that is being launched in four stages.
The Central Expressway is being constructed facilitating easy travel to the Western, Central, North Central, Northern and Eastern Provinces. It is considered to be another Project that would make a direct contribution to development minimizing the time consumed in travelling. The first stage of the Expressway project is being implemented from Kadawatha to Mirigama. Its distance is nearly 38 kilometres.
The first stage is successfully progressing. The total cost of this phase will be 158.4 billion rupees. The construction which is being carried out with interchanges at Kadawatha, Gampaha, Veyangoda and Mirigama South is being handled by the Chinese MCC Company. Financial assistance is being provided by the Chinese Exim Bank.
The distance of the second phase will be more than 39 kilometres. It runs from Mirigama to Kurunegala. The third stage has a distance of over 32 kilometres and is from Pothuhera to Galagedara. The fourth phase of the Central Expressway is from Kurunegala to Dambulla and will have a distance of 60 kilometres.
The completion of work on the Project will facilitate travel in the country. It would be an impetus for the development in the industrial and investment sector.
