Wasim Thajudeen murder: Anura Senanayake and former OIC Crimes remanded

Former Senior DIG Anura Senanayake who was arrested for allegedly withholding evidence in the murder of former rugby player Wasim Thajudeen, has been further remanded until the 09th of next month.
The Colombo Additional Magistrate also ordered to further remand former Narahenpita OIC Crimes Sumith Champika Perera until this day.
Magistrate Nishantha Peiris who rejected the bail request submitted on behalf of the suspects said that if they granted bail their lives would face an impact from society. He said that since the suspects are former Police Officers, there is a possibility of the witnesses being influenced.
The judiciary informed the telecommunication institution to expeditiously submit detailed reports of telephone calls which are required for the ongoing investigations.
The attorney of the Narahenpita OIC Crimes informed that judiciary that his client has expressed willingness to voluntarily make a confession before the Magistrate. Since such a confession had to be made in agreement with the conscience, the Additional Magistrate ordered that it can be done at the next hearing after due consideration.
The Criminal Investigations Department had earlier intimated to Courts that a person through evidence had stated that the suspect Anura Senanayake had visited to scene of the accident in the wee hours of 17th May 2012, in civvies. In addition the Criminal Investigations Department informed the Court that they were hold inquiries on an allegation against the suspect of conspiring to carry out a murder.
