Veteran Film Director D.B. Nihalsinghe passes away

Veteran Film Director, Cinematographer, Editor and Producer D. B. Nihalsinghe has passed away. He was 77.
D.B. Nihalsinghe was noted for his versatility: as a Film Cameraman, a film director, a pioneering television director, an administrator, as well as a teacher.
He was a pioneer who introduced professional television production to Sri Lanka in 1979, commencing the first colour teledrama, “Dimuthu Muthu”. He was known for his involvement in several iconic films in Sri Lanka including as the Editor of Sathsamudura, Director, Producer of Welikathara, Editor of Sagarayak Meda, Director, Cinematographer of Maldeniye Simiyon and Director of Kelimadala.
Nihalsinghe has also won many Awards. He was the founding Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of the Sri Lanka’s National Film Corporation and a distinguished alumni of the then University of Ceylon, Peradeniya, presently the University of Peradeniya.
