President Maithripala Sirisena has announced that sustainable development
and reconciliation are the prime aims of the Sri Lankan Government. The President made these references during a meeting with representatives including Dana J Hyde, the Chief Executive Officer of the United States Millennium Challenge Corporation.
Dana J. Hyde expressed her appreciation on the victories achieved by the Sri Lankan Government within a short period. She pointed out that the intention of their group was to work in close collaboration with Sri Lanka.
The United States Millennium Challenge Corporation has selected Sri Lanka for its Threshold Programme, under which assistance will be provided for selected projects.
Expressing his gratitude in this respect, the President said that this would be a vital strength for Sri Lanka to achieve its future economic goals. The President lauded the Millennium Challenge Corporation the mechanism it is following for the selection of countries for the related projects. The President said that Sri Lanka was moving forward strengthening reconciliation within sustainable development.
The President clarified the initiatives taken to ensure the protection of peace and freedom as well as democracy and human rights within Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan Government has also taken a number of measures to consolidate democracy and freedom through the adoption of the 19th Constitutional Amendment.
President Maithripala Sirisena stressed the steps taken by his Government for the crafting of a new Constitution and bout the initiatives being taken to build permanent peace in the country.
