UNP and Freedom Alliance place deposits for many Local bodies

The United People’s Freedom Alliance and the United National Party have placed deposits on behalf of several Local Government bodies.
The United National Party handed over deposits on behalf of the Weligepola Pradeshiya Sabha in Kalawana electorate of the Ratnapura District. The deposits were placed under the patronage of Parliamentarian Hesha Vithana. There is a Municipal Council, two Urban Councils and 14 Pradeshiya Sabha within the Ratnapura District. 165 members are due to be elected to these Local Councils.
The United People’s Freedom Alliance today handed over deposits for many Local Government Institutions in the Badulla District. It handed over deposits for the Lunugala, Ella, Badulla, Mahiyangana and Haldummulla Pradeshiya Sabha, the Haputale Urban Council and the Badulla Municipal Council.
Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Services Nimal Siripala de Silva and Uva Chief Minister Chamara Sampath Dassanayake joined in a walk with the respective candidates from the official residence of the Chief Minister to place the deposits. A group including Badulla District electoral organizers of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party joined in this occasion.
A group including the former Chairman of the Lidula Urban Council that supported the Sri Lanka Podujana Front has placed deposits to contest the local body independently. Former Chairman of the Talawakele Lidula Urban Council Ashoka Sepala said he took this decision due to the actions of members representing the Joint Opposition of the area.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party has placed deposits to contest the Boralesgamuwa and Maharagama Urban Councils and the Dehiwala Mount Lavinia Municipal Council. Among those who joined in the handing over of deposits at the Colombo District Elections Office in Rajagiriya were State Minister for Higher Education Mohan Lal Grero and Western Province Chief Minister Isura Devapriya.
