Two more persons have been taken into custody with respect to the attack on the prison bus in Kalutara. The Police have referred to a disclosure of a plan by some criminal fleeing the country. Accordingly two Police teams have been deployed at the Katunayake and Mattala Airports. Police Media Spokesman DIG Priyantha Jayakody said that a special programme is in place to prevent an effort of these culprits fleeing the country by boat. It was on the 27th of last month that a bus transporting inmates from the Kalutara Prisons came under attack. Five prison inmates and two prison officials died in this incident. The Criminal Investigations Department arrested a woman who had harboured a gunman and along with a spy last night.
The woman who was taken into custody for giving refuge to a gunman who was found to have been involved in the shooting is a resident from Walahanduwa in Galle. It was revealed at the investigations that she had harboured this criminal for several days. A spy who was involved in this incident was arrested from the Pinwatte area in Panadura. All the suspects involved in this crime have been identified and the Police said they are continuing their operations for their arrest.
Five Police teams under the direct supervision of Senior DIG Nandana Munasinghe have been deployed.
The Police Media spokesman further said that two teams from the Criminal Investigations Department and the Special Task Force have also been deployed on the special orders of the Inspector General of Police.
