A cargo container truck that crashed near Kalupalama along the main railway track in Peliyagoda had inflicted heavy damages to the double rail track. Railway authorities succeeded in completing repairs to the double track which was damaged in this accident.

The double track under the Kalupalama along the Kelaniya-Biygama road was heavily damaged following the cargo container truck. The Railway Department said that the accident had been caused as the container truck had operated ignoring road signals. As a result there was a delay in the operation of trains on this main track from this morning.
It was possible to initially operate trains from Colombo to Polgahawela with the commencement of repairs. Thereafter action was initiated to return the operation of trains from Polgahawela to Colombo to normality. The container truck driver is now in the custody of the Peliyagoda Police.
The Railway Department pointed out that the operation of container trucks under this bridge in Peliyagoda had been barred through a gazette notification. It pointed out that the reason for such accidents is the operation of vehicles by container truck drivers in an unwary manner.
This is reported to be the third accident that had occurred at this location within this week.
