The United People’s Freedom Alliance inaugural rally was held in Anuradhapura today. It was presided by President Maithripala Sirisena. Addressing the rally, the President stated that all Sri Lankans are well aware about the service that has been rendered by the SLFP to the country. He explained that the SLFP has worked to safeguard Sri Lankan identity, culture, tradition, and develop the nation in holistic manner.
Former Prime Minister late SWRD Bandaranayake formed SLFP in 1951 with a new vision. The President said that no other politician was able to ascend to power in a shorter period of time like late Prime Minister Bandaranayake, after setting up a new political party.
He pointed out that the SLFP is the leading political party in the country that brings the nation forward. Several Ministers and MPs participated in the function. A large crowd attended the rally.
