The programme to make Sri Lanka the hub in the Indian Ocean is mooted; PM


Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe has said that the programme of making Sri Lanka the hub within the Indian Ocean has been launched. The Prime Minister made this reference at a function organized at the Colombo Dockyard.
The Colombo Dockyard marking another breakthrough in its production history, today commenced work on the manufacture of a modern ship for the laying of communication wires within the deep sea. This new ship is being produced on behalf of the Kokusai Cable Vessel Private Ltd, a leading Shipping Company of Japan. The agreement related to this production project was inked today. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe launched the work on the build up of the ship at an auspicious time.
The ship will have a capacity of 5000 tons. It will be 113 metres long and 21.5 metres wide. The work on the vessel is due to be completed by the year 2019.
Minister Malik Samarawickrema and Japan’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka Kenichi Suganuma were among those present.
