Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne says that the Gazette

which makes compulsory to mention sugar content in fizzy drinks would be made mandatory. He has said this issuing a special media release. The Health Ministry has taken measures to introduce a colour code process for food categories according to the food act number 26 of 1980. The Health Ministry said that the relevant Gazette notification would be implemented from the first of August this year. Accordingly all drinks with a sugar content of more than 11 grams would be marked in red colour, drinks with sugar content from 2 grams to 11 grams would be marked in yellow colour and those with less than 2 grams would be marked in green colour.
