Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has said that children who are not successful

in the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination will be given an opportunity to pursue studies in Advanced Level under a suitable curricular.
The Minister referred to plans to give the children continuous education for 13 years for all children from the year 2018. The Minister was speaking at a function held to grant assistance for the construction of office buildings of heads of Pirivenas.
The Education Minister said that from 2018 onwards, even students who fail the GCE Ordinary Level examination will be given an opportunity to sit the GCE Advanced Level. He pointed out that students who sit the GCE Ordinary Level examination next year will be the first batch of students to benefit from this move.
The Minister stressed the earlier requirement that students should obtain pass marks in Mathematics or obtain pass marks in the minimum number of subjects at the O/L examination would not be mandatory when it comes to sitting the GCE Advanced Lelvel examination. He said that this decision will enable students admitted to grade 1 to continue through grade 13 without any obstructions.
