Stay Order issued by the Court of Appeal on the Financial Crimes Investigation Department preventing any action against former Secretary of Defence, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, over the misappropriation of 90 million rupees of public coffers was extended.  The Court of Appeal extended the Order till 15th of this month. Deputy Solicitor General Viraj Dayaratne, appearing on behalf of the Attorney General, stated that the petitioner had defrauded the facts and therefore object to the extension of the Stay Order. The Attorney General filed written objections today.
President’s Counsel Romesh de Silva, appeared on behalf of former Defense Secretary, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, requested the court to provide another date to present his opinion on preliminary objections of the Attorney General after studying the said objections.
Consequently, the Court of Appeal decided to call the petition on the 15th of August. He has been accused of misusing 90 million rupees belonging to the Land Reclamation and Development Corporation at the construction of the D.A. Rajapaksa Memorial Museum in Medamulana.
