The passing out parade of a group of Sri Lankan Army soldiers leaving for Lebanon to serve as Peacekeeping services in Lebanon was held at the Ambepussa Sinha Regiment Headquarters yesterday.
The Chief Guest at the passing out parade was Major General A.P. Wickremaratne, Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force. The group that passed out comprised 150 members of 10 of the Signal, Infantry and Commando Forces.
The United Nations commenced peacekeeping operations in 1978 centering Lebanon.
Sri Lankan troops for the first time joined in peacekeeping operations from the year 2010.
