Special transport services are operative on behalf of the people leaving for their home towns for the traditional New Year. At present more than 100,000 vehicles are daily using the Southern Expressway. This was disclosed by Director of the Expressway Maintenance and Operations Director, S. Opanaike. The income earned from the Expressway during the last 24 hours has exceeded 30 million rupees.
In the meantime, the Sri Lanka Transport Board announced that 2000 additional buses have been added for operations. Also the National Transport Commission is operating additional trips to cater to the needed of the commuters. Additional services are operative to every Province from the Pettah Central Bus Stand. Chairman of the Sri Lanka Transport Board Ramal Siriwardena said that these services are operative based on the need of the commuters.
Additional trains are also operative in view of catering to the requirements of commuters for the New Year season. The Railway Services has announced that special trains are running from the Colombo Fort and Maradana Railway Stations to Galle, Matara and Bandarawela as well as areas such as Veyangoda and Kalutara.
