The Disaster Management Center states that speculations on a tsunami is completely false. Assistant Director of the Center Pradeep Kodippili stated that the Disaster Management Center is well prepared to educate the public about any possible disaster.
Pradeep Kodippili urged the people not to be perturbed by false information being circulated over an imminent tsunami. He added that some people have even started to evacuate from the coastal areas due to the false information.
He explained that Tsunami is a phenomenon that cannot be predicted. But the country has a strong early warning system.
He highlighted that The Met Department and the Disaster Management Center are keeping tabs with international organizations on possible weather threats. The public can obtain information by telephoning 117 and 011 2 670 002. Pradeep Kodippili further noted that the messages on the disasters will be sent to the public in a short period of time with its communication system.
