A tense situation surfaced at the Southern Provincial Council today. Reports said that the mace too had been damaged.
The Southern Provincial Council met today as a special session to discuss the 20th Constitutional Draft Bill. There was a heated exchange of words between the Joint Opposition Councillors expressing support since the commencement of the debate and other members.
Accordingly a tense situation surfaced within the Council. Thereafter the sessions were adjourned for 15 minutes. Following this situation a group of certain Councilors had damaged the mace.
United National Party members were not present when voting on the 20th Amendment for the holding of the elections to all Provincial Councils on the same day was taken up. As such it was defeated in the Council.
