52 schools in the Sabaragamuwa Province have been closed in-definitely
due to the disaster situation. Several schools in the Colombo District which have been damaged due to the floods have also been decided to be kept closed. 33 schools in Kegalle and Ratnapura Districts are being used as welfare camps for the displaced people. 19 schools have been identified in those districts to be in dangerous conditions. Sabaragamuwa Province Chief Minister Maheepala Herath said that measures would be taken to remove the displaced people from the schools and to repair the schools that need immediate renovations. He said this during a discussion at the Chief Minister’s office in Kegalla. Meanwhile it has been decided to close in-definitely all schools in the Kolonnawa Divisional Secretariat area. Three schools in the Kaduwela Divisional Secretariat area will be kept closed tomorrow and day after. It has also been decided to keep close four schools in the Seethawaka Educational Zone and five schools in the Homagama Educational Zone.
