The second stage of the project to conserve and develop 13,000 places of worship countrywide has commenced.

It is planned to develop 13,000 places of worship under this programme which has been mooted with the contribution of the Central Cultural Fund. Measures will also be adopted to conserve them. The inaugural function is due to be held under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe on the 04th of next month.

Under this programme it is hoped to develop 150 Vihares during the first phase and award financial assistance. The Central Cultural Fund said that the allocation made for this project is 425 million rupees. The programme is due to be carried under the guidance of Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.
