Another stage of the Model Village programme revived after a lapse of 22 years was vested in the public today.
The programme which generates a revolution in housing development in Sri Lanka, is sure to fulfil the aspirations of the people. It was former President the Late Ranasinghe Premadsa who directed the country’s housing programme to a revolutionary change with the intention of making every citizen a proud owner of a block of land and a house. While serving as the Prime Minister, Ranasinghe Premadasa launched the 100,000 housing programme, the one million housing programme and the 1.5 million housing programme, directing the country towards a new path. Noteworthy was that all these housing programmes were not limited to granting houses.
A special place connected to livelihood development was attached to it. However, this housing concept became defunct with his demise. But it has now been revived under the leadership of his son, Minister Sajith Premadasa.
Sahanagama, the second village under the model village concept revived after 21 years meeting the desires of the ordinary people, was declared open today under the auspices of Minister Sajith Premadasa.
It has come up within the Lunugamvehera Divisional Secretariat Division at Tissamaharama in Hambantota. 25 houses under the first stage were vested in the public today.
