The funeral of Former Parliamentarian of the Galle District Anagarika Ryter Tilakasekara was conduct today. Large crowds paid their last respects to the remains laid at the Ambalangoda Urban Council premises.
The remains that were lying at his residence at Thilakapura in Ambalangoda was brought in a procession to the Ambalangoda Urban Council premises in a motorcade this morning. The remains were lying there until 2 pm for the public to pay their last respects.
Ryter Tilakasekara was 82 years of age at the time of his death. He first entered Parliament in the year 1977 winning the Ambalangoda electorate from the United National Party.
Ryter Tilakasekara was the only living person who was among the two United National Party members elected to Parliament in 1977 from the Galle District. He also served as a Member of Parliament for the second time from 1984 to 1988. He had also served as a Minister of the Southern Provincial Council. He had no interest in estates and property and was a politician dedicated to serving the people.
Many Parliamentarians also joined in paying their final respects to Ryter Tilakasekara. The last rites were performed today.
