A discussion on the Right to Information Bill has been held with World Bank representatives and Minister Gayantha Karunatilake. It is reported that World Bank assistance has been pledged to train Government officials.
A special discussion was held between senior World Bank officials Vikram Chans and Charles Undeland and Minister Gayantha Karunatilake at the Parliamentary Complex. Their discussion centred on the future Government initiatives on the Right to Information Bill.
Agreement had been reached to organize training programmes needed to educate Government officials on the Right to Information Bill as well as provide the required financial facilities.
Deputy Minister Karunaratne Paranavithana and Parliamentarian Jayampathi Wickremaratne joined the Minister in this discussion.
